the one where Addie + Zach get married at Eberley Brooks

Addie Grant and Zach Buckley were married at Eberley Brooks in Lubbock, Texas on Friday, November 6th. What a day!

“You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.”
Dr. Seuss

What a wonderful couple! Of course I say that about so many people, but it’s true. It really is. When you spend this much time with people, on their wedding day with your lens pointed at them all day, you get to know them a bit. I’m such a voyeur with folks. I watch their body language with their friends and their family, it’s quite addicting for me really. And after watching/photographing these two all day, I truly feel they are wonderful.

Best wishes to the two of them. As I type this they are honeymooning in Lake Tahoe and more then likely cozied up by a fire enjoying a relaxing day!

Kristin

the one with tips for the bride + groom

wilson_gilliam_sneak_peek_1136.jpg

Dear Bride + Groom,

You are getting married very soon and I really want you to have the BEST day and have the BEST WEDDING PHOTOS!  So, here are 7 quick tips I’ve put together to help with that.

relax and TRUST ME.  I’ve got this.  HELLO!  Even though this may be your first wedding, it’s not my first rodeo.  I’ve done this a time or two and know what I’m doing.

BE AS CAMERA UNAWARE AS POSSIBLE AND SMILE! Easier said than done, I know.  But just ignore me.  I want you to try and forget that you are being photographed.  What’s going to make your photographs great is simply the two of you together with family and friends.   Be yourself, smile a lot, cry a lot, do what comes in the moment!

LOOK AT EACH OTHER. When couples look at each other, emotions flow and people enjoy themselves!  Meaning, YOUR GUESTS.  They are there to celebrate you and when they see you having a great time with each other, it just makes the entire room feel the joy!  Choose joy and look at each other.

Below are some key moments to do just that…

  • during the toasts

  • any time you two are walking down an aisle

  • when dancing

I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU MAN AND WIFE. It’s exciting!  7/10 brides forget their bouquet immediately after these words and that kiss.  And can we talk about that kiss for a minute?  That kiss is EVERYTHING.  Maybe talk about it for a moment just between the two of you.  Not too long not too short.  Just right, like baby bear.   AND when you walk down that aisle as husband and wife, look at each other!  It’s exciting!  You did it!

CAKE CUTTING. No one knows how to do this, I mean, come on!  How many times have you actually cut a cake?  With one hand?  And in a dress?  The main thing to remember is there are no rules.  It’s you two, cutting a cake together.  Have fun!  Kiss a little frosting and enjoy it!  If you think it may get a bit messy, let him feed you first. That way you have the chance for a payback. 😉

THE EXIT I’m a pro. I can photograph almost anything. And the exit is typically a joy filled crazy run away. Take it slow. Stroll if you can. Enjoy the exit and the shower of birdseed, flower petals or sparks, whatever.  And unless someone is chasing you, take it all in.  All the love and excitement from all your guests who are there celebrating with you!

THE DETAILS It’s not something you really think about, but it’s something I think about every time I edit wedding photos. Lose the iPhone. They create bulges in your wedding suit. Unecessary bulges that compete with other bulges. And your glasses? If you wear them and they do not have non-glare lenses, you may want to look at having them replaced. Little details like this go a long way in making your wedding photos the BEST they can be!

DON’T BE AFRAID Most of all, more then anything…don’t be afraid to show the real you that day.  It may feel awkward at first, me in your face and photographing you all day, but don’t worry.  If you can BE yourself, you know, vulnerability is scary, but if you can, you will LOVE your photographs!

the one where Sydney + Beau get married

Sydney Craig and Beau Howard were married at Autumn Oaks Event Center in Lubbock, Texas this summer. It was a lovely affair with close family and friends, admits a pandemic, of course. Thank goodness for soft, green grass and plenty of outdoor space for all the guests to social distance and for one brief moment, forget about everything else but love.

These two planned a wedding in the midst of a pandemic. They were married recently at Autumn Oaks Event Center with close friends and family attending. And because this place has lovely green grass and plenty of outdoor space, the guests for one brief moment, could forget about the mess we are living in, the chaos, and enjoy an evening of good food and great friends. I’m serious about the grass folks. Soft and green and perfect for your bare-feet. Yep. I actually tried it out a time or two.

Sydney and Beau have dated since high school. Sweethearts for a long time, these two were simply READY to get married! Watch the slideshow above and then simply scroll through the rest. Such a wonderful day!

xoxo

the one with one frame from Sadie + Aaron's wedding day

Have you ever been to a wedding in Wall, Texas? What about Olfen? Or a wedding dance in Miles? HELLO! Another Dierschke got married!

20200620_2381.jpg

I’ve hesitated to share any images from this wedding because I’m so sad! Not sad because the wedding was awful or miserable or anything. It’s completely opposite of that. Sad because Sadie is the last Dierschke to get married in Monroe and Mollie’s family and I’m so going to miss them. At this point, with three weddings under my belt, they are like family. I will miss them so much!

SARAH + MARSHALL

SALLY + RICH

But I truly am very happy for them.

How happy are they in this frame!

the one with Sadie and Aaron's BIG CATHOLIC WEDDING!

Have you ever attended a BIG FAT CATHOLIC WEDDING?  If not, you should!

If you like watching weddings, simply click that photo to see a slideshow. If you like weddings with the words, then keep scrolling baby! I got you covered! Today I’m talking about Sadie + Aaron’s Wedding!

I’m almost sad to post this. I truly am. I’ve been photographing this family for years now. And I truly love every minute I get to spend with them. The Dierschke Family in Wall is precious to me and their community. And their youngest daughter was married during this pandemic and they still managed to bring the community together in a grand way while keeping us all safe.

Sadie has two sisters and I had the privilege of photographing their weddings as well.

SALLY + RICH

SARAH + MARSHALL

20200620_0696.jpg

I lovingly refer to Dierschke weddings as BIG FAT CATHOLIC WEDDINGS. People, it’s insane the amount of work that goes into these weddings and the community that rallies behind them to celebrate! It’s insane and fun and something to witness at some point in your life. If you get invited to a Catholic wedding near Wall, Texas.

GO!

Sadie’s sisters have had some cute kiddos since becoming wives. Of course, they were included in the wedding details and I loved seeing the wedding through their eyes!

Her sister’s were married in their home church in Wall, however, Sadie + Aaron wanted a Traditional Latin Mass, I think even High Mass if I’m not mistaken, and the church that worked with them was in Olfen. I didn’t mind one bit the extra driving because HELLO! I love visiting new churches and seeing the details. This one did not disappoint! Although it wasn’t my first visit. I photographed her sister’s bridals at this church. Part of them anyway.

The details of the lace on Sadie’s gown were stunning. Absolutely stunning! And bravo to her mom for helping her get dressed. Things were a bit stressed because of the drive and the heat and the fact that the office was locked and we couldn’t get in right away. They came through like CHAMPS though! This family knows how to roll with the pressure.

Dear Marshall. You never disappoint. Always here to brighten my day and help me make kick ass photos. Marshall is the guy on the right in this photo. The one without the hat. He’s married to Sarah and the best advice I can give you about Marshall, is be ready to say NO. He comes up with all kinds of ideas that could possibly get one in trouble. Fun, YES. But many times trouble. Marshall, you know I love you. Toni loves you as well.

Below is the videographer, Noe. He’s super fun to work with and always sets up the best shots for my camera. LOL

Like I mentioned before, it was super hot that day! It never seemed to bother Sadie. She held herself with such grace that day.

I LOVE THIS SHOT ABOVE!!!!

The light was coming from the north window in the room and there was a huge black TV on the wall. I think the room is used as an activity parish center, perhaps. At first, I was working hard to find a composition that worked without the dang TV. UGH. It was like the black hole of death in my book. But then with all the movement and activity in the room, I decided to simply embrace it and move in. By move in, I move with my feet to change the focal point. I work with prime lenses and so I move, not the lens. I hope that makes sense to anyone that’s in the photography game. I’ve learned through my many years of photographing and loving weddings, the three components of a good picture are moment, lighting, composition.

I always watch the groom when the bride is coming down the aisle. How can you not? Will he break down and cry? Or will he be so happy that only a smile can shine on his face! The latter in this case. BRAVO Aaron! I’ve been a Catholic for almost 30 years now and I’m still discovering the mysteries of our Church! This was definitely something to witness and be a part of. If you are Catholic and planning a Catholic wedding, please give me a call. We need to talk.

I’m dumping a bunch of images in the gallery below, but I have so many to share and you really only come here for the pictures, let’s be honest, so ENJOY!

love does,

Kristin

the one where Taylor + Brannon get married at her home

Remember the Trash the Dress sessions back in the day? This girl planned hers for her wedding day. Yep. She’s that badass. LOVED photographing this wedding!

Taylor and my daughter Summer Zoe are long time friends. They attended school together at Cooper and stayed friends long after Cooper ended. Every time Summer would come home from college or then her job/work, she never left the 806 without a visit to see Taylor, Heck, we took Taylor with us when Summer graduated from TCU! She’s family in our book.

Taylor fell in love with Brannon and when he proposed, they planned a wedding in the spring. We all know what happened this spring, don’t we? Yep. A pandemic. So, when her wedding venue couldn’t open due to the shut-in, she decided to get married at home in a small ceremony. Looking back through all these images, it was perfect. Absolutely perfect.

We love you, Tay-con!

the one where I go to Colorado to photograph Luke + Camille's wedding

A few weeks back I made a road trip to Colorado to photograph a wedding for some very dear friends of mine. The Kitten Family and I go way back and their daughter, Camille was in love and planning a lovely wedding. When the pandemic hit plans changed and her wedding became a smaller, more intimate family affair. Sounds like my kind of party so LET’S GO! I hitched a ride with her mom and dad and off we went to Colorado! Masks, hand sanitizer and camera gear on board.

It was a great road trip! Lots of love and laughter and games. I love games! We played the “name that song game”. Have you ever played that? Someone in the car is DJ and they play a song from their playlist and everyone else names the tune and earns points for artist and song title. Super fun! we also got a flat tire which is not super fun but that only set us back about an hour or so and we still arrived in Colorado with the sun shining.

In the photographs I’m sharing here, you’ll see a cute puppy. His name is John and he made the trek from Lubbock to Denver to his new home. He belongs to the bride and groom and he was simply so sweet and soft. He even went on their honeymoon! I’m not lying! Of course, due to the pandemic, their romantic honeymoon they had planned was changed and instead? Mountain hideaway with a new puppy.

My weekend in Denver was wonderful. It truly was. We made some fun memories together, played that new card game Mike + Valerie got me addicted to, and even hiked a mountain for a proposal. The bride’s brother, Luke proposed to his girlfriend!!! It was awesome! Yes. COVID-19 precautions were everywhere but it didn’t stop the love the families brought to celebrate this couple. I’m forever thankful that they allowed me to be a part of their weekend. Think about it? You are restricted by guests numbers and I made the cut! It felt like I had made my high school basketball team as a freshman or something! It felt good. ❤️

Enjoy the sneak peek! And make sure to click the play button on that slideshow above.

Kristin

the one where Faith + Malik get married at Hugo's on the Square in Canyon, Texas

20191228_20965.jpg

Intimate events are small gatherings of your favorite people in one small space celebrating the two of you. In December, these two did just that. They had a lovely wedding with just the most important people in their lives. I just happened to be invited to document it.

In today’s COVID-19 times, intimate is even more of a thing. Gatherings of less then 10 in some areas, in others? Not even allowed outside of your household except for the essentials. I’m sure these two are thankful their wedding took place before the outbreak.

I’m photographing several intimate gatherings in the next few weeks. Couples are still getting married, just getting married in different ways. Some are canceling the BIG wedding and just have-not their parents. I have one couple it’s just the two of them, a priest and me. I have another that moved their big celebration to the fall.

My point is you are in love. You are getting married. The love is what is moving you forward and getting us all through this.

Much love to all of you and if you are planning an intimate event, give me a call. I’d love to document it forever.

Love does,

Kristin

the one where I talk about the corona virus, COVID-19

20200306_00053_.jpg

Thinking a lot about COVID-19 lately? I mean how can you not? We hear about it everywhere. On our phones, the TV, in memes on social media…IT’s EVERYWHERE and we are trying to avoid it.

The CDC announced on Sunday their recommendations for organizers and event planners.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Sunday recommended that no gatherings with 50 people or more take place for the next eight weeks to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The agency said these gatherings include conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings and other types of assemblies.

Ugh. Recommends. I had to look that word up on dictionary.com to understand if I was going to be thrown in jail or not. I mean not me, but venue organizers and event planners. What exactly does RECOMMEND mean?

recommend

Pronunciation /ˌrekəˈmend/ /ˌrɛkəˈmɛnd/

TRANSITIVE VERB

[WITH OBJECT]

  • 1Put forward (someone or something) with approval as being suitable for a particular purpose or role.

‘George had recommended some local architects’

‘a book I recommended to a friend of mine’

    More example sentences

    Synonyms

    1. 1.1Advise or suggest (something) as a course of action.‘some doctors recommend putting a board under the mattress with clause ‘the report recommended that criminal charges be brought’

    2. 1.2with object and infinitive Advise (someone) to do something.‘you are strongly recommended to seek professional advice’

    3. 1.3Make (someone or something) appealing or desirable.‘the house had much to recommend it’

    4. 2recommend someone/something to archaic Commend or entrust someone or something to (someone)

‘I devoutly recommended my spirit to its maker’

Folks, life is going to get hard. The last thing any bride wants to do is move her wedding day when her wedding is less than 2 months out. And by “recommending” you don’t. It’s a discussion between you and your family, your future spouse AND your wedding venue.

My heart hurts for these couples that are having to make choices. I’m very sorry.

So, I’m reaching out to you to let you know I realize how much planning goes into your wedding day and I want to thank you for choosing me, for honoring me, with the chance to document this special time in your life. It’s big. BIG. My business of documenting weddings supports me and my family and I pour my heart and energy into my couples and their wedding day. I want to kick ass and take names! I truly do! I love my job!!!

I know that there is a lot of uncertainty right now. Lots of confusion and rumors and craziness. I mean, really? Toilet paper? Hello!! I lost part of my badass to colon cancer and I’m not crazy buying the stuff! Chill out.

Please know that if you have any questions or concerns, or simply want to scream into the phone and have someone listen, I’m am here for you. Yes. That did happen today.

I AM HERE FOR YOU.

I’ve added all of you to my Rosary Prayer List. (check my Instagram stories under catholic life) I want you to know I’m fully committed to fulfilling your photography contracts whether or not there are ANY ADJUSTMENTS. You know, venue changes, number of guests or even possible postponements.

I AM HERE FOR YOU.

Thank you for not making rash decisions, but if you do, PLEASE CALL ME TO PHOTOGRAPH IT. (Kind of only teasing.) I know that adapting to this recommendation isn’t easy. Ultimately what matters the most is you two commit to each other forever. You get married. The love of your life! I’m here to help you brainstorm options, create alternative plans and/or making sure your events go as planned. Maybe even throw a few safety and health tips to you along the way. I may have been googling black hazmat suits, just in case.

I’m still operating my photography business as usual, with weddings thus far taking place as planned. I’m taking the necessary precautions to make sure I stay healthy and safe in the meantime, so I can be there for you at your event. I think they call this social distancing, even though I’ve been on social media way more than usual lately.

Know that I’m thinking of you. My heart hurts for you having to deal with this.

I AM HERE FOR YOU.

Love does,

Kristin

the one where Payton + Colton get married at a friend's house

Payton Gregory and Colton McKinney were married at a private residence around the Holidays.

20191221_14142-2.jpg

I can’t let another day go by. NOT ONE MORE! Today, I’m blogging this bad boy of a wedding for everyone to see! It’s that good.

A little backstory about this wedding…

Payton grew up at Cooper playing basketball with my girls. Heck. All her sisters did. They developed something called Gregory Time. When we would ask in a group about when we should meet and time was decided on, the group would ask, “Is this Gregory Time? Or REAL time?” Because you just knew that “Gregory Time” ran late. It was simply a fact of life. I’m not even sure which Gregory was the one responsible for creating “Gregory Time”? It doesn’t really matter. But I’m rambling. And what I really want to tell you is that this family is so much fun and so darn sweet. So, when Payton fell in love and decided to get married… HELLO! I had to be there! If only to see if the bride and her family would be on time! Which, I’d like to report, they were!

Here come the bullets!!! Are you ready?

(For those that don’t know…sometimes I bullet my thoughts and notes from a wedding as I’m editing, attending, photogarphing, etc.)

  • The groom’s mom was at a wedding I photographed many moons ago. She’s got a killer karaoke song that I witnessed in person just a few short weeks after this wedding, and her son, the groom totally gets his laugh from her. You can scroll down to witness that in the pretty pictures I included below. Oh! And they both love a good beer bong. That picture? Not included. LOL

  • The videographer knows the bride’s cousin, I think college roomies? She put a video together of the couple’s day and posted some images on her site. Her name is Mason and we got to hang out together most of the day. Super fun.

  • Mr. Gregory and Payton have the same smile. In fact, many said they are the SAME. As in thinking, mannerisms, only one has longer hair. I’m not sure about all that but I know he made everyone cry at least once that day.

  • speaking of crying, the groom of course, CRIED when she came down the aisle. Which was a booger to shoot, by the way. Sunshine galore and a pool in between. I had to pay attention or get wet. Thank you, Colton, for crying.

  • I loved the flowers! They were simply gorgeous and I’m a sucker for a good bouquet. This one did NOT disappoint.

  • Feathers are pretty darn cool on a dress. Not sure if it shows in the photos, but Dana, the bride’s mom had feathers on the sleeves of her gown. Super cool!

  • Praying makes people cry. Especially when you are touching each other and are close together in a bathroom.

  • I’ve never seen a beer bong AT a wedding reception. Maybe at the rehearsal dinner or the after-party, heck even in the getting ready room, but at the reception? Nope. I kind of like it. I can’t show photos of it because of the shape of the tube, but you get the idea.

  • Groom’s that bring small flashlights to weddings to use during the garter toss find amazing things under those gowns.

  • Wedding shoes do NOT have to be new. You can wear shoes you’ve worn before as long as you love them and they make you happy. That’s important. Happiness on your wedding day is the most important thing of all.

  • When one of your bridesmaids is a nurse, it’s AWESOME. She knows the best stuff to pack and it’s things you just can’t get youself, you know? Pedalyte in JUMBO bottles, meds, and various other ailment remedies. When you really think about it, you never know who’s going to need some nursing.

  • Some people think black isn’t a great color to wear to a wedding. I beg to differ. Payton let the girls choose their own gowns. It didn’t matter the style, just the length, and the color. HELLO! She wins an award for this, doesn’t she? And it’s always feels (and photographs) elegant to me.

  • When the groom take shower and his friends are around? You know there’s going to be something to photograph. And there definitely was, but I can’t share that photo. TMI if you know what I mean. Gosh! Guys sure do know how to smell good when they wanna.

  • Watch out for flies in your wine. Yep. Payton + Colton planned for a communion time during their wedding. They had a sweet table set up with the wine and the bread and when they went in to partake, there were flies belly up in the wine! Good thing these two looked before they drank.

  • Please have all your groomsmen dance with the mother of the bride. It’s just too darn GREAT when they “frat boy” all over her! Makes for some super great picture taking.

  • If you bring a +1 to a wedding, (this is for you, Avery) make sure he helps your dad hang a chandelier at the ceremony site instead of sleeping in that day. I’m sure that was a bonding time for those two. No?

  • I had a new lighting assistant help me out this day. A very good friend of mine, Davia and we had so much fun together! She ran into quite a few of the wedding guests that she knew so it made it a fun night for her as well. Work is always good when it’s fun, right?

Okay, so enough for now. I know you wanna see ALL THE PRETTY PHOTOS! Please be sure and read through all the details that Payton + Colton left in regards to their wedding day. And if you know someone getting married, SEND THEM THE LINK TO THIS BLOG POST! I truly love my job and want everyone to have wedding photographs they love!

Love Does,
Kristin

The gorgeous GREGORY girls!

The gorgeous GREGORY girls!

The following are questions I asked the bride and groom. I love the story behind the photos.

what do you remember most about your day?

Payton - The encouragement, specific prayer, and personal words spoken/written throughout the day are what I remember most. My bridal party and women in my family put together a scrapbook of pictures and personal letters. These words and memories blessed my spirit. These women also specifically prayed over the day, my husband and I, and our lives going forward just before I walked down the aisle. Colton also knows my love for words of affirmation, so we were sure to carve out a bit of time in the day to share letters that we had written to one another (around a corner because we wanted to save our first look for the aisle). Tears filled my eyes through all of these moments, but especially as we stood before the Lord, friends, and family to read our personal vows to one another. Being able to share all of the promises that God laid on my heart over our two-year engagement was by far one of the most memorable moments I have from our day. Going forward, committing to and following through with these promises will always remind me of when we said I do and the evident presence of the Holy Spirit in a moment of such treasured words.

Colton - I remember Payton walking down the aisle, laughing about the panties being thrown around while the song stand up and shout played, and crying saying my vows to Payton.

HOLY MOLY! Talk about getting comfy with the photographer. Colton and his guys we sharing the getting ready space together and I mean TOGETHER. The bathroom and the shower. AT THE SAME TIME. That’s the first thing that came to mind. The main thing I remember about the day more then anything was the intensity of the thought that Payton put into EVERYTHING. Not the details and amount spent on her wedding day, but the thought and intention that went into every decesion based on her and Colton. This girl THINKS. You can definitely see it in her eyes during the ceremony. Gosh! I could feel how much she was into it. Almost like she was blocking everything else out and just concentrating on that moment. In all my many years of photographing wedding, (over 250) I had never witnessed that through my lens before. Oh, and that dance moment with the underwear? YEP. That was definitely a memory! LOL - Kristin

Your ceremony in three words.

Spiritual. Intentional. Beautiful.

music...

Our first dance was to "The Rest of Our Lives" by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. The first time that we heard this song play, Colton had already bought the ring and asked my parents for my hand in marriage. I had no idea about either of these things, I just knew I was going to marry Colton someday. We were sitting in my living room listening to new music releases and this song came on. Both of us teared up when we heard the sweet lyrics ("You know there's just something about you. You brighten my day...With you, I'll stay young for the rest of my life.") and just knew that it was our song!

kbedz_20191221_00094.jpg

We debated back and forth between having a DJ or a band for a couple of weeks but ended up going with a DJ due to the space limitations we had where we got married and already having very specific song selections picked out for the ceremony and reception dances. The guys who DJ'd for our wedding were Heath Stewart and Todd Chambers (also play for the Spur 327 Band). After we selected the songs that we needed for the ceremony and reception, they put together a FANTASTIC dance playlist just perfect for our reception. Not putting a reception music playlist together myself was one less thing I decided I wanted to worry about in preparing for the wedding, so I completely trusted their judgment on putting one together for us based on what we liked in general and they blew us away. We had the best dance party our my lives!

Any advice for future b + g's?

On the wedding day, whenever you have a chance to step back and take visual snapshots of what's going on around you, DO IT, every chance you get. This was some advice that we were given prior to our big day and these visual and emotional memories that we have in our minds and hearts of our day are so memorable. Also, if you're going to splurge on anything, splurge on photography. The real and raw moments that beautifully happen throughout a wedding day NEED to be captured well! (Shoutout to Kristin. We are IN LOVE with ALL of our wedding pictures!)

Payton, I LOVE YOU!!! Thank you!!!

If you could do it all again, anything you would change?: Not a single thing.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?: We spent our honeymoon and first Christmas together at a resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica. A few hours before our arriving flight left the airport, we realized we weren't going to make our connecting flight in Houston due to delays and had to change our flight. We were also upgraded to first-class because that's all that was left on the plane we were switched to. Apparently this isn't a common accommodation that airline companies make, so merry wedding, honeymoon, and Christmas to us! On the flight back home we did not get upgraded to first class. Instead, we snuggled up with the much smaller amount of space there was in coach class. We didn't mind this though! Over our week in Jamaica, we spent a lot of time on the beach and at the pool, relaxing and enjoying one another. We couldn't have had a better getaway for our first week as husband and wife. Jamaica is just BEAUTIFUL and we hope to be back someday!

the one at Kitalou gin where Aislinn + Trevor say "I do"

Cake is a good thing. This couple had an AMAZING day with family and friends at Kitalou Gin in Idalou Texas. Just keep clicking and see for yourself.

Kitalou has been a favorite venue of mine since before they opened. I happen to know the owners and I had a tour early on. HELLO! I fell in love! Trevor and Aislinn chose this place for their wedding and I’m so happy they did. We had a BLAST at Kitlou! I want blog readers to know how hard it is to put into words what a tremendous job I have. Not only in making good pictures that can last a lifetime for couple’s. But in getting to know these people and placing them in your heart and then saying goodbye. I always feel attached and connected. I’m just that kind of person with my camera. I truly love my job and the folks that trust me to photograph their BIG DAY!

Okay, enough sappy talk. Let’s get to the details and the pretty pictures!

Love Does,
Kristin

what do you remember most about your day?

Just spending the most perfect day with all of the people that matter most to me. Especially Trevor Craig. I got to walk down the aisle and marry my best friend. I got to sit down and eat a delicious meal with the person I love to go eat with. I got to laugh and dance with the person who makes me laugh so hard I cry and can't breathe. We got to do all of those things while being surrounded by our family and friends which was so special to us. And now I get to remember ALL the things thanks to the lovely Kristin Bednarz who documented each and every moment perfectly.

awww…shucks.

Your ceremony in three words.

Euphoric. Ardor. Ours.

Our ceremony was everything I imagined it to be and then some. I had an elegant/rustic/Jane-Austen-esque scene in mind and that is exactly how it turned out. As I stepped through the door to walk down the aisle with my arm tucked around my dad's, I was just engulfed by a euphoric sense of how everything just came together. I saw all of the people that were there to celebrate us as I walked down the aisle and then my eyes landed on Trevor. Which brings me to my second word. The feeling of ardor was so intense as I walked down towards Trevor and realized that this is it. This is the day we get to get married. Which leads me to the last word. Ours. This word describes our day the best. Ours is exactly what it was. In my opinion, we are rather unique. We made this day ours in every way.

music?

Well we knew we were going to use a DJ. One of our friend's from college, DJ C-Los, is one of the best DJ's out there in my opinion so of course we were going to ask him. He helped me out when I wanted to kind of play a trick on Trev with our first dance. We already had a had time finding a song for our first dance. Luckily I head the song All Your'n by Tyler Childers and we knew that was the one. Before we found that song though we were struggling. Nothing seemed right.. One day the song Slow Burn came on in the pickup, and it is a song we both like. I suggested to Trev that we should just use that song as our first dance! He response was "Aislinn... you know that song is about a one night stand right...?" Needless to say we obviously found another song, but Carlos worked with me and helped me play a trick on Trev by playing the intro to Slow Burn before our actual first song. When it came on he just looked at me and said "You changed the song!?!" and started to laugh.

I feel like the two of you will be doing this kind of stuff to each other FOREVER. And I love it! Here’s that moment below. I love hearing the story behind it. Well played.

Any advice for future b + g's?

Plan and be organized as much as you as an individual need. Everyone says to not sweat the small stuff, but if being prepared and having all of the little details planned is what makes you feel better, then be prepared. If going with the flow is what is best for you, then go with the flow. But regardless, just know in the end, all of the people that love you will make it come together. At the end of the day, you'll finally be married. And that is pretty dang cool.

If you could do it all again, anything you would change?

Not stressing as much over things that were outside of my control. As I mentioned earlier, you should be as organized as you want to be, but as I learned, not everything is in your control and your husband *cough* Trevor *cough* might throw away a whole box of wedding things. In the end, it didn't even matter and on the actual day, I didn't even think about it. I was too dang excited about getting married!!!

I’m dying laughing while reading this. HELLO! I had several local photographers looking for a pale blue ring box. Not even kidding. LOL Here’s my favorite shot of your gorgeous rings anyway. LOVE!

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

BARBADOS. It was simply beautiful and everything you could hope for in a honeymoon. We stayed at Sandals Royal Barbados and it was perfect. It was such a carefree, relaxing, and beautiful place. We had SO much fun. The food was also amazing (very important to two foodies such as ourselves). We are already planning our next trip back.

Bree + Justin were married at Kitalou Gin in Idalou. Such a great day! Vendors are included with this blog post. You can find all the info inside!

Redden_Wallace_20191026_00003_sneak.JPG

I had the pleasure of photographing Bree’s wedding. She was a classmate of Summer, my youngest, at LCHS and they even cheered together, back in the day. I’ll see if I can find a picture of them together. HELLO! They were soooo cute! They still are! But if I find one, I’ll share it on Instagram in honor of me FINALLY BLOGGING HER WEDDING!

Okay, here’s the details. This is something I really want to implement for 2020 more. Share the DETAILS! I’ll try to include my thoughts and maybe their contact info. Either Facebook or Instagram.

video: Gabriel Campbell

loved working with this guy! His energy was great and we just bounced off each other in a good way. Not the “I wanna fight you” you.

cake: Sweet Celebrations

It was total yum. Just scroll down and see for yourself. I ate my entire piece. It doesn’t always happen. Sometimes it the frosting I love, other times, the cake flavor. Many times they are gorgeous but taste so-so. This one? LOVED.

final thoughts

what do you remember most about your day? The “first” look with my groom. Or so he thought! I borrowed one of my friends grandmothers wedding dress to surprise my groom with his best man as his “bride” on our first look. The first look with my dad was another one of my favorites. My dad is such an important person to me. To be able to share that moment with him is something words cannot describe. I will cherish that forever.

I will as well, Bree! I loved all your moments with your loved ones. You did such a lovely job of making them feel so wanted and special.

Your ceremony in three words. emotional, spiritual, beautiful

agreed

music.  We actually had both. I wanted my guest to get the “live” band vibe, so we had Jr Vasquez play for our ceremony & cocktail hour & a DJ for our reception to play all fun music to get the party going!

Any advice for future b + g's? Do what YOU want. Don’t worry about other people & what they will feel or think. The day is about you & you should feel nothing less than the most important thing that day! Enjoy the time you have because it goes by faster than you can ever imagine!

BRAVO! It’s so true! Good words of advice.

If you could do it all again, anything you would change? I wish I would have taken the time to really enjoy the moments I had. Instead of worrying about the little things going on around me, I would have enjoyed spending time with my mom & stepmom & all of my girls.

Where did you go on your honeymoon? Y E S. We went to an all inclusive resort in Cancun, Mexico. SO AMAZING. It was the first time I had ever been out of the country & the first time I had ever flown in a plane (crazy right?) it was so relaxing & so peaceful. we can’t wait to go back!!!!

I hope you get to go there and many other places just the two of you! May you always smile each day with each other and always make each other laugh. You guys are off to a GREA start!!!

Love does,
Kristin

the one where Sydni + Braden get married at Kitalou Gin

Sydni married Brayd

bednarz_hayward_20190713_00338.jpg

When someone you love gets married at one of the venues you love, the love just works it’s way through your camera and the photographs you make are just better. They truly are! I’m emotionally attached. I just am. I mean, I’m emotionally attached to all my images, but especially these.

Sydni and Braden were married at Kitalou Gin in July and their entire worlds of family and friends came to spend the weekend celebrating together! It was so much fun and so many tears. Gosh! When her brother Braxton married the lovely Keirsan, I thought that was rough, but golly, Sydni’s dad, Chris giving her away? His oldest daughter? That one ripped a hole immediately in my heart and I even though I was prepared, I kind of wasn’t. I BAWLED. Lucky for me there was a pretty arch of flowers and a HUGE wedding party hiding my face. As a professional photographer, you try and remove your self from the emotion of what is happening, but sometimes you simply can’t. I couldn’t! I couldn’t at Braxton’s wedding, and I darn sure didn’t at this one.

If you were a guest at this event and you saw me, you know that I looked rough. I fully blame Chris Bednarz and his crying, bawling at the viewing of his daughter in her gown. HELLO! RIPPED. And then after reapplying what little makeup I wear, I bawled again during the ceremony. Thank goodness the rest of the day was fun times and dancing!

the one where Lindsey marries Keaton

Sometimes I write a lot when I blog. Sometimes I don’t. Today is one of those days where the photos just need to roll out. Just know, I love these people so much in these photos. My daughter Summer was a bridesmaid and many of her friends. Listen, this group is TIGHT.

The groom’s side? Good guys. Yes, they can get a little crazy from time and the fact that like they spank each other with chaps is something I will never understand. But like I was telling Keaton’s mom earlier this week, her son makes me smile so dang quick. He has the best heart and he obviously LOVES Lindsey! You can’t ask for more than that.

Kristin

the one where Skylar marries Deon at Kitalou Gin

We met first, online. And then again, when I photographed her bridals. She literally took my breath away! Not even kidding. And you will quickly be able to tell when you scroll through these images I’m sharing. HELLO! Skylar is GORGEOUS! The wedding was held at Kitalou Gin and they always do a great job and handling large crowds and making sure things run smoothly

The Heinrich’s are one of my favorite families the truly are salt of the earth and such hard workers! They go above and beyond to make your wedding day the best it can be! Advertisement over, let’s talk about the wedding! Something I try and do after every wedding is to jot down some notes in my phone to help me remember parts of the day. Here’s my mental bullets folks.

  • Brides mom was  once DJ in Amarillo.  How cool is that? We were in the brides room prepping for the day and they playlist was such a good one after the first few songs I finally asked about it and that’s how I found out she used to be a DJ on the radio! Her coolness factor just jumped through the roof!

  • The Newton Family was at the wedding! I love them so! II’ve photographed them before and didn’t realize they would be there. So it was super fun to see them! And that Beth? The girl loves to dance! As do her kiddos!

  • One of Skylar’s childhood friends runs a company that crafts pots. It’s name is JUST POTS. How cute is that? My next trip, I’m stopping.

  • The girls had a long history together and it was so much fun watching them interact and hang out together. LOVE and laughter galore!

  • Deon was a bit quiet and I couldn’t get a good read of him at first. Remember, I didn’t get to meet him before, Typically, because engagement sessions are included with your photography coverage, I know the groom before the wedding day and get a good feel for him. I didn’t have a feel for Deon other then he was super tall, dark and very handsome. And quiet. So, when the first dance started, I along with almost everyone there, squealed with surprise when he totally pulled off a choreographed routine that rivaled Baby and Johnny Castle from Dirty Dancing!

  • Skylar has her fake eyelashes removed that morning. She hated her extensions! And after seeing her normal eyelashes, I could understand why. It was too much! The girl has AMAZING lashes already and didn’t need the extensions. She’s beautiful!

  • Ever Peach Design, did the flowers.  The girl I met was named Kirby and she did AWESOME!

  • The girls had a long history together and it was so much fun watching them interact and hang out together. LOVE and laughter galore!

  • Right before Skylar walked down the aisle, she had moment with her dad that caused me to pause. I have no idea what was said, but you could tell by the feeling in that space it was emotional and REAL. You know, when the hair stands up on your arms? That kind of feeling in a good way. You can see it below so keep scrolling!

  • The bride’s nieces were her flower girls and those sweet babes had so much personality! I instantly fell in love. During the reception their parents threw them on their shoulders to dance and one loved it and the other? Burst into tears. After some coaxing, she let them do it again. Good for her!

  • The band was AWESOME! Good vocals, good looks, nice music! They rocked the place! As did one of their friends who got up and sang as well!

  • Toasts were spot on! Funny with just the right amount of emotion!

  • Whataburger arrived during the reception to fight off the munchies! How cool was that?!

All in all a fabulous wedding day for these two!

Love Does,
Kristin

the one where Katherine and Ryan are married at Holy Spirit Catholic Church

kristin_bednarz_photographer_20190223_00250.jpg

Katherine and Ryan were married at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lubbock, Texas. I’ve been at this church several times over the years. These two met through the church and even though they both grew up in different areas of Texas, really wanted to get married in their home church. Big families came and celebrated and they FILLED the church at the reception hall to overflowing! So much love in this building and so much love for the two of them!

Love Does,
Kristin
