the one where Taryn + Brandon rehearse

I tend to find myself in situations where laughter is inappropriate. In this case, rehearsal in a church. And by inappropriate, I mean the kind of laughter that is LOUD + PROUD. If you know what I mean. Last night I think I found my laughter soul mate. The one that creates the situation, I feed off of it and then we simply keep on rolling with it 1/2 the night.

Yep. That’s the one.

Brandon and Taryn are getting married today! We rehearsed last night and I’m super excited. I’m working with some of my favorite people. Valerie is coordinating the day and my BFF, Toni will be there as well . Watch out world!

the one where my nephew gets married!

So, it happened! My nephew is married! Holy Smokes! And I got to photograph the affair. How crazy is that?!?! It all started when he met Amber at his high school graduation. (see photo below)

Noah’s grandma Tina and Amber’s grandma, Margie were long-time friends. They brought the two together and 6 years later, we celebrated the sacrament of their marriage with a mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Ojai, California. Amber grew up in Ojai.

It was like a family reunion for all of us. HELLO!

My family on the left (along with my turkey neck that is making me think I need to start dressing like Diane Keaton) and my fabulous sister’s family on the right. How pretty everyone looks!

This is my family above with my sister, Kim’s family. ALL TOGETHER! This rarely happens, so by gosh, thank you, Anthony (best man) for making this possible. (he took the photo)

We all stayed at the same hotel and even though it flew by so quickly, we had such a great time! We even squeezed in a movie night, the classic The Goonies, at the pool on the projector I brought from Texas for the rehearsal slideshow. Yes. I wore many hats this weekend!

CLICK HERE FOR CHEESY REHEARSAL SLIDESHOW

You know how I love a good slideshow! LOL

Something to keep in mind as I share this blog post. I dropped my phone in the pool on the first day we were there. Yep. IN THE POOL. I dove in for it, but it wasn’t salvageable. Sad but true and therefore, nothing behind the scenes from the iPhone. No stories, reels, or selfies. I had to rely on family + friends. It’s very sad, really. AND if you tried to get ahold of me during this time, my phone could not ring, so I’m sure I missed calls and possibly even someone inquiring about a wedding. Who knows?

I did work with some pretty fabulous people. Here’s their info…

the one where Payton + Hunter get married in Crossroads, Texas

What a fabulous wedding! If you haven’t attended a wedding at Hillside Estates in Crossroads, Texas, woe is you! It’s fabulous! Payton + Hunter were married there and I got to photograph it! YAY!

These two tied the knot at the gorgeous Hill Side Estates over the July 4th weekend. Such a fabulous black tie affair! I realize on the invitation it was “optional” and we all know that I’m not photographing in anything but black, no dress EVER, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy photographing a “black tie affair” and seeing all the gorgeous gowns! It’s like the Academy Awards for a wedding photographer! It truly is. And not that I don’t love this wedding more than any other wedding I’ve photographed, because I don’t. I truly don’t. I just love about ANY wedding I photograph! LOL.

Payton’s mom and dad are long time friends of mine. I should say “ours” as in my family. They raised their family here in Slaton, USA and we’ve watched each other’s kids grow. Their girls attended school with my girls. In fact, Taylor, Payton’s older sister was in her momma’s belly when I got married! Gosh, that’s crazy when I think about it. All of us have even spend Labor Day weekends together riding 4 wheelers in the mountains. SO MUCH FUN! In other words, they are dear to our hearts. And when they asked me to photograph Payton’s wedding, I was so happy. One, because I love weddings, and two, because it’s like we came full circle. I photographed this girl in pigtails, cheer leading skirts, even a prom dress or three. Photographing her wedding was simply the icing on the cake! And what a cake! Just look at it!

The details at this wedding were simply P E R F E C T. From the fantastic florists to the custom dance floor and even down to her sweet fur baby being dressed up and included for the events! This wedding had a definite DREAM TEAM ON BOARD! That’s for sure! Let me grab the list.

PLANNER  ONE FAT DOVE

VENUE: THE HILLSIDE ESTATES

FLORIST: BEHOLD FLORAL DESIGN

HMUA: ETOILLY ARTISTRY

DANCE FLOOR & VINYL: INKREDIBLE DANCEFLOORS

MARQUEE LETTERS: ALPHA-LIT DALLAS

VIDEOGRAPHER: 613WEDDINGS

BARTENDING: MOMMAS MEDICINE COCKTAILS

DJ: ADAM MORGAN

BAKERY: BUTTERFLY CAKERY

CATERING: VESTALS CATERING

FIREWORKS: PYROTEXUS

GRAND EXIT VEHICLE: DFW VINTAGE CARS

GUEST TRANSPORTATION: PERMIER OF DALLAS

Just a few of my notes before you really start to scroll.

  • the moms. STUNNING. Payton’s mom, Hunter’s mom, both looked AMAZEBALLS. It was so much fun seeing them all dressed up and celebrating the night away! One cried much more than the other and I won’t name any names, but see for yourself in the pictures below.

  • when Dad saw Payton in her gown? That was such a great moment! He waved! He seriously waved! That was a great ice breaker!

  • when Payton + Hunter had their big exit? SILVER STREAMERS everywhere! Cavendar, the AMAZING florist was handing out the streamer poppers and folks just weren’t sure how to do them and they were stopping at the door in the dark on the way out, asking him for instructions. You know, like “what is this?” “How do we do this?” and he kept repeating in his snarky yet FAB voice, They are drugs, take them and go. I was DYING. Never had an exit quite like this one. We were sooooo WRAPPED up in streamers I couldn’t walk! Crazy fun and crazy hard to make photographs. But I think we pulled it off!

  • special thanks to Nathan for 2nd shooting with me on this one. He’s always a treat to have on board and it’s fun to have someone to bounce ideas off of and try new things. Plus he’s tall. And we shoot the same gear. And I learn each and every time he’s shooting.

  • Katie, the planner? She was a smooth operator. This was not an easy day for anyone involved. The heat was intense and a lot of people involved in the wedding party. A dog. Did I mention a DOG? Little ones, and a loud venue for family formals, and she handled it all with grace and helped anyone and everyone that day. If you are in the Dallas area, give her a call. Heck, I think she travels, so give her a call.

  • custom cocktails are all the RAGE at weddings recently and I’m here for them! Payton + Hunter’s wedding was no exception! Such a fun thing for her guests and this girl knows her audience. Big hit! And of course, folks want to try them all! Along with the custom cocktails, there was some homemade moonshine under a table or two. Don’t ask me how I know, but you are welcome to ask my opinion.

  • during the ceremony, I tried to stash myself on the stage behind the florals. Wasn’t easy. I shared the space with the videographer, who was the bomb.com to work with! (see you at Brooke’s wedding in January) and I think I made them wiggle a time or two? Gosh! Couldn’t be helped, but golly I gotta work on my cat like ninja skills. They have been suffering as of late. Less wedding cake and more working out needs to be done.

  • Talk about a funny ceremony. HELLO! I sometimes zone out on words and pay attention to faces and expressions and people. My brain is thinking about composition and moments more than anything and I heard everyone laughing. I really did. I think it had something to do with Payton’s vows? I thought I heard Hunter mention something about keeping the doors shut, as he didn’t want her to run. I just remember LOTS of laughter!

  • These two were a dream to photograph. I had so much fun with them during their couple’s portrait time. You know that line from Usher about a Freak? Yep. Let’s just say we worked that joke all night long.

  • When I look back through these images and write this blog post, all I think about is how much joy and laughter there was this day! The way everyone just shared and danced and loved on each other was wonderful to witness and you could feel the love in the room. BRAVO to the two of you for hosting everyone and making everyone feel so welcome. BRAVO!

the one where Mayci + Corbin get married at Tin Top

The Details! Hello! So important and I always say I’ll got back and add them, but then I rarely do. I told myself, “I’m not blogging this one until I get ALL the details.” So, here you go!

venue: Tin Top in Slaton

floral: the FAB Victoria

video: Jayden | West Texas Wedding Videographer

dress: Grace Loves Lace

makeup: Janelle Carlisle

cake: Lisa Meadows

Please let me know if I forgot anyone!

Backstory, Mayci is someone I’ve watched grow up through the years since well, since she was born. She had a rough start with a bout of whooping cough that scared the Jesus into each and everyone one of us mommas but she prevailed and simply always had a sweetness about her that was simply true and real to her core. She was so happy and smiley as a baby and was always just a joy to be around.

Flash forward to adulthood and now? This girl is still the same. Super sweet to the core and just one of the best humans to be around. She fell in love and asked me to be her photographer and of course I said YES!

Here’s the sneak peek folks! I tried to add my personal opinions and feelings about the day but remember, I’m no writer. I tell stories with my camera, so keep scrolling baby!

Love Does,
Kristin

Just look at this sweet little girl? How precious is she?

Have you ever heard of a “first touch”? Those are becoming quite popular for the “traditional crowd”. Mayci and Corbin met minutes before the ceremony to read their vows to each other.

Mayci’s Momma, Keri, and I go waaaaaaay back. Like scary way back. I don’t want to say how way back because I might not recover from the shock of my age. Yes. I’m old. I get that. But when I see all her babies getting married? I’m happy and sad all at the same time. It goes by so fast people. So very fast.

I rarely show off details photos, but hello! I had to. I mean, they used my photo for their STD’s. And check our Corbin’s ring! How cool it that scroll work detail. LOVE their details!

that’s all I’m going to share because I really want you to click that photo film above and just enjoy the show! I wish these two (and their precious families) ALL the love in the world and will pray for them as marriage is tough folks. Very tough. But it can be so awesome, too.

Leave some love below in the comments, please. Everyone needs a little love in their life.

I couldn’t sleep last night! It was awful. I’ve heard of people talking about insomnia and always felt awful for them. I truly did. Last night I laid there thinking about Kitalou and Kelby and Kash. Anytime someone is getting married I get excited, but when I’ve watched them grow up, known their parents and really truly LOVE their family, well, it just gets me in the heart + soul and I just laid there.

For hours.

Kitalou is a great space to get married folks! I photographed the FIRST wedding held there when they opened and every time I’m back there I see something new. They are always updating, maintaining and just doing everything possible to make the space an awesome experience.

I’m excited to be back!

the one where Peg + Malcolm get married

"I believe there are only one or two people in the world with whom one can have a true connection. When you've been fortunate enough to marry one of those people, you are reluctant to settle for less. One can have lovers, those are easily found, but true love rarely strikes twice."
Nicole Richie (Priceless)

I had the pleasure of witnessing these two get married. Family is important to Peg. She made sure her sons walked her down the aisle and had her grandchildren participate in several ways at her wedding. There was beautiful music and such a lovely mood in the air. I describe it as joy, but it was also deep. So many good friends came to wish the couple well. Living a good life will do that for you. Bring others around to celebrate!

the one where Kelsie + Frank get married at Tin Top in Slaton, Texas

CLICK THAT PLAY BUTTON!

I first met Kelsie and Frank at Burklee Hill Vineyards, downtown Lubbock. I had a booth at a wedding expo and we they came to meet me in person. I knew right away I wanted to photograph their wedding. HELLO! They both work in the arts/theatre industry and have such a great connection with each other and those around them. I immediately fell in love with the two of them. I tend to do that, with the good ones, anyway.

Have you heard of Moonlight Musicals? Frank is the operations coordinator there. I think? And Keslie is heavily involved was well. You can image their friends and family that were a part of the day. EVERYONE jumped in and helped decorate and make their vision for their wedding come alive. I got to watch that process that morning.

Their venue, Tin Top Gin had a wedding the day before so they couldn’t get in to decorate until the day of. They rehearsed that morning as well. Everyone just jumped in and decorated and then rehearsed and then broke for lunch and showers and then these two got married!

Just a phenomenal day!

I don’t want to say the words “pandemic” but heck folks. It’s what we have been dealing with for over almost 2 years. As a wedding photographer, I’ve added smaller ceremonies and then rescheduled so many existing ceremonies it’s been exhausting! However, I can roll with it because it’s my job. But to the girls planning their big days? HELLO! AWFUL! They’ve had to change plans on a dime, even up to the day based on government, venues, sickness, etc.

When Taylor + Ryan finally got to have their BIG DAY, it was so perfect and so lovely and just right.

BRAVO to them both!

I’m blogging from Alabama.
my oldest lives here and I came to visit her for a few days. She lives in Birmingham and it’s absolutely beautiful here.

im wrapping up the end of the year photography wise. I have 2 more weddings and oodles of family sessions. Even a grad session or two. Gosh, October and November are crazy busy for photographers. 🤪

When I put together the slideahow for this couple, I was reminded about the true things that matter in a wedding day.

the love.

If you strip away the details, the formalities and traditions that go with a wedding, what you have left is simply two people deciding in front of all their friends and family to choose each other. That’s what these two did.

They chose each other.

love does,

Kristin
