Tips for your Grad Session

First of all, I can’t wait to photograph you!!! I love that you asked me to do this and am completely flattered and HELLO!  I have no doubt we are going to capture some great photos!  Read this through because I blabbed a bunch of info that will help with our time together. And if you skip it to study instead, whatever, I can still make kick-butt photos with you.

‍ ‍

Please have all your outfits gathered and ready to go!  Pay special attention to shoes, jewelry, underwear, socks, tiara (if getting that fancy) etc.  If everything is cleaned, pressed and ready to go, we won’t be delayed and possibly lose light.  An average session lasts 1 - 1.5 hours and if we start late, the session is not extended, but rather ends at the regularly scheduled time.  Please don’t think ill of me…I just want to be honest in advance and let you know, I can’t control Mother Nature.  I sure wish I could!   And I want the BEST photography experience for you.  Being mindful of the time achieves exactly this!  :)

Text me those outfit ideas!  This helps me get to know your style and colors you love ahead of time.  Just photograph them on the bed or your body and send them my way. 806-789-2673 Also, bring more outfits than what you think you need!  I love shopping your closet!  Oh, and if you have a couple of colleges in mind, your favorite pair of jeans with a college t-shirt always works for a great “thank you” card for after graduation.  I know you think it’s a million weeks away, but nope.  You need to start those TY notes ASAP!

Be sure and check out the blog for grad sessions before this shoot.  I’ve also discovered that when the prospective client views a sample in advance, it helps them feel comfortable in front of the camera.  Girls are usually more likely to model or what I lovingly refer to as “work-it” in front of the camera. However, you may be camera shy or need an extra push of help.  Viewing some of my work helps before hand.  Please know, I’m only there to make you look AMAZEBALLS. ;) Here’s a specific link to my blog that’ll bring up only senior sessions.  (I’m crossing my fingers this works…my website and blog are always a “work in progress”.)

GRAD SESSIONS

Don’t hesitate to check out photo shoot locations beforehand. I know we spoke about this, and I have many locations in mind, however, if something else has popped up or you have a cool idea, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I encourage you to find a spot that reflects your personality and a place you’ll feel comfortable. And please note that there is no such thing as an ‘ugly’ location....there is beauty everywhere....we just have to find it! I’ve shot pretty much in every location imaginable (dumpsters, septic tanks, graffiti walls, etc), so please know that the location doesn’t necessarily have to be pretty at every corner :). It just has to mean something to you.

It’s always fun to bring along props. I view every session like a magazine shoot.  Complete with models and props and scenery. I want every shoot to look like it could be in a magazine, so feel free to bring things along that really reflect your personality. For instance, I’ve had a senior bring along a soccer ball because that was her game and we photographed her on her home school field. Another bought her dog.  One guy, his guitar.  Another, she rode her horse at a local park.  If you are big into music or play an instrument, don’t hesitate to incorporate that into our time together.  The list is endless! Suggestions: Bikes, even motorcycles, your car, truck, a favorite journal, magazines or books you love, really, ANYTHING YOU LOVE!  Don’t hesitate to bring anything that truly reflects you individually at this time in your life.

*playing devil’s advocate here…props aren’t really necessary so don’t feel the pressure to come up them.  OK?  You totally don’t need them. I just want you to feel like you could bring them.

Some girls will have their hair and makeup professionally done for the shoot.  This helps them feel a little more ‘done-up’ and boosts their confidence. I’m not saying you should do this AT ALL!! I mean, HELLO.  I’m sure you’ve been doing your makeup for years and look wonderful.  However, what I can say is maybe shower, shave, perhaps brush your teeth, pedicure if you are going barefoot or wearing flip flops.  Anything you normally do to look your best is what you should do for this as well.  IMPRESS.  It shows in your photographs!!!

I think that covers it!  I’ll see you soon!!!

Love does,
Kristin

PS. Throw in an extra pair of shoes just in case we need to trek through some crap before we get to the PERFECT spot. OK?
