I love this family! I love everything about them. The energy, the curly hair, the sweet clothes, (styled by momma, of course) and the fact that they let me shoot them, over and over again. I LOVE that most of all.
Ashton, your family is absolutely precious and I love you, all of you. Thank you for trespassing with me at The Trails, even though we didn't know we were trespassing. And thank you for putting up with all those nasty mosquitos. Heck! That was awful!

Time to dump some pretty photos on the blog, folks. I'm starting with this cute family, I met Janie, the grandma, in the street in Kingsgate. I was working in her neighborhood and when I was finished, she introduced herself. I was so glad she did! She said her daughter's family needed some new photographs and we chatted a bit, exchanged numbers and a few days later, we all met at the park.
Have the trees not been absolutely gorgoues lately?!?! I took advantage of the Garden and Arts Center we have here in Lubbock. It provides plenty of room for wiglly kids to roam around and because of the fenced in area, you don't have to worry about them darting into traffic. Plus, if you have climbing toddlers, the stairs work great for that as well.

When I photograph families, I miss my kids. Afterwards, I go home and pull up old photos and get all nostalgic and weepy. And there’s not even alcohol involved anymore. Insane isn’t it?! Here I am, empty nest, blessed with a busy business and two kids that are awesome and self sufficient and I’m wishing for the glory days of yesterday. I think it's a "mom" thing. But just look at that face above?!?! I had his sister tell him a secret, and this works great with siblings that are typically very physical and moving and simply not sitting still, and it worked with these two like a charm!
Thank you, Burkholder family for inviting me into your home and lives on a lazy Sunday. I sure enjoyed myself!

I remember when my babies were this little! I always felt folks were judging how good a baby she was on how well she behaved. And many times, I felt people had very high expectations for little bodies in public places. I would let it affect me as a mommy. Like I was doing something wrong. I let it eat at my self-esteem and that natural instinct I felt inside. I know having children and practically raising them in public, (Take One Video Babies) has totally helped me and eventually, I started listening more to that inside voice. That inside mommy's voice, that's one you should totally listen to because if you have your priorities right, and you are taking care of yourself and them, don't doubt yourself. Just don't. You deserve to PARENT your kid because you know that KID better than anyone.
This brings me to this cute little family. I mean, just look at the joy in that kid's eyes! HELLO! She's not even 2 and barely toddling around and we have a session scheduled just a few minutes before her bedtime. AND she didn't take a great nap. Do you see where I'm going with this mommas?
This session was for a magazine where you feature a resident in the neighborhood. So, as parent's of this child, you would hope she could sit still for a few seconds to get a picture or two for the publication. Simple enough. Right? But, if you are the "almost 2-year-old" and you don't understand magazine's and can't even read them, but you do understand outside and puppies and flowers and walking, what do you think you are going to want to do when the photographer takes you outside for your photograph? You are going walking folks. And I could feel this, like deep in my mommy bones, so I decided to roll with it. We walked the block a time or two and then quickly got what we needed for our magazine.
Roll with it, momma. Just roll with it.

Blogging is still my favorite way to share photos with the world. It's a great photo journal to have to showcase my work both NOW and from the past. This family? You may have seen them on the blog before. Sally and Joe are celebrating 25 years of marriage. I'm glad they got together way back when. They made some pretty darn kick ass kids.

The Burch Family is a member of our Church Family. This past Friday, they became a REAL family by legal standards in the state of Texas. I'm so happy I got to witness it. Needless to say, there were a few tears shed that day, and twice as many smiles!

the one where Brynn graduates from Granbury High School
Guess who got to watch Brynn graduate last week? ME! I photographed her senior portrait back in August and here we are in May and she's already graduating! The year sure flew by! It was quick and crazy but oh such fun! We definitely laughed a few times.

the one with Mandy + Paul and their cute dogs
Mandy + Paul are cool. They make you laugh and enjoy yourself and most of all, make you feel accepted and loved. That's a big deal in my eyes. For one, life is way too short not to have fun when you can, and these two? Despite working hard, know how to have fun. It just follows Mandy around.
Mandy also is the world's best text messenger in the world. She's got any tween beat at this game. She uses the least amount of letters to get her thoughts across and does so in a way that anyone can understand. I have to read her messages out loud, but as soon as I do, I understand them. But they don't translate well in my brain if I try and read them silently.
They brought along their dogs for the session and a family member that could help us wrangle them. My dogs are my family, so I totally get that! They should be involved and present and among us. I seriously had to break out my "massive dog friendly skills" to get these dudes to pay attention to me and not the Lubbock wildlife. HELLO! These guys were created to roam and sniff and run. Not exactly camera aware skills if you know what I mean.
If you are thinking about your next family picture, I encourage you to bring the mutts, the fur babies, your little ones. We can plan a way to make it work.

the one with Riley, another "bad ass" and her cute, adorable family
I met Riley (the mom in the photos) through the Magic Hour Foundation. It's a network of professional photographers who serve individuals and families fighting cancer. They got me and Riley together. When a family is hit with a cancer diagnosis, a lot of stuff happens. Not high on the priority list is "family pictures". It's a great organization and I encourage you, if you are reading this and know a family dealing with cancer, please share the link with them. I would LOVE to do this again!
Her hubby had just gotten home from deployment and it was the perfect time to meet and make some kick ass photos together. This couple had gotten married at the courthouse before one of his tours of duty, but he had never officially proposed to her. Well, guess what? He did! And did so during the session. It's towards the end, so keep scrolling.

Repeat clients are the BEST! And this family is no exception!!! LOVE this family!!! Betty raised two beautiful girls, Sarah and Emilie. And they married some great guys, Chris and Jake. You add it all together, stir for a few years and BAM! You have some GORGEOUS kiddos! They made the time a few weeks ago to get all dressed up and together in the same town. BRAVO!!!

She belongs to the deacon at my church and his wife, April. They are The Behnke Family. They have 7 going on 8 kids and everything about them screams FUN and exciting and BIG and BUSTLING. I love the energy that comes forth every time you are around them!
We recently go together to photograph their family and to announce the impending arrival of baby Behnke #8. I'm so happy for them!

I feel for mommas. I really do. I mean, we have never had our family photograph made. We've had snapshots and timers, iPhone photos, etc. But not professionally. So, I get to show up when I'm photographing a family and just play with the kids. HELLO! Fun job, no? But the mommas? They have the clothes, the cleaning, the behaving AND get themselves to look top notch, photo worthy. It's a lot to handle! And then, mother nature throws a curve ball and it's cold, cold, cold the day we are photographing your family. BUMMER. With a BIG B. So, what did this momma do? She rolled with it folks. We moved the session in the the barn and turned on a heater, grabbed a sweet kitty and just had a ball! Or at least I did.

This is the Gilles Family! They are my backdoor neighbors that I never see, yet fondly love. I have lots of neighbors like that. I see them more on facebook then I do in real life. Are you guys that way? They have a bucket load of kids and I'm insanely jealous of all the activity and hustle and bustle that goes on in their lives. INSANELY. I'm thinking I can be adopted by them and just tag along for the ride.

the one with those precious Newton kids
This is my second time to photograph this precious family! You can view their first family session by CLICKING HERE. I always immediately fall in love with these 3 kids! I mean HELLO! Just look at how adorable they are! They've got cute hair, lovely eyes, cute clothes...what's not to love? And then, when you spend a few minutes with them, you realize they are simply the coolest kids! Sure, they are a bit wild and rambunctious, but that's just it! They are WILD and a complete joy to photograph! And their mom and dad are great about just letting them be. They expect them to be respectful and listen, but they also let them run and fall down and not freak out when they do.
