Lubbock-Cooper-Pirates

They were calling it the "showdown across town".  In fact, they had a Hashtag for the vent!  And when I was driving up, I even saw planes hovering above advertising because HELLO!  This is where everyone wanted to be Friday night!  Everyone wanted to watch the Lubbock Cooper Pirates play sportsball against the Frenship Tigers!  And I was one of those "everyones".

So much excitement!!! You could feel the energy in the parking lot!  Crazy!!!  And I loved it!!!  The band was there, the key people were there and the sidelines were packed with photographers.  We all wanted a chance to document this game.  Even this Lubbock Wedding Photographer couldn't stay away!

I got to see my good friend, LuAnn Curry with Curry Photography.  Her husband, Randy works the business with her and anytime I'm at a sporting event with Frenship, I get to hug her neck!  I so wish I would have remembered to take a selfie with her!  I hate that I forget.  You'll just have to take my word that I saw her.  OK?

The Pirates came out strong and played hard and had a 21-0 lead at the 1/2.  WOW!  That was awesome!  And then they came out of the locker room for the 3rd quarter and the defense held the goose egg and we all just went nuts!!!  I loved it!  Way to play Cooper and a HUGE shout out to the student body and awesome they were!!  Sure there was some rival things yelled a time or two, but for the most part, they were respectful, they cheered on our boys, and it looked like they had an AWESOME time doing it!

You can view more pictures on the Pirate Gallery.  Simple click the link "down with LCP" that's under the menu.

the one with the CMS Ballers

Can't you just feel the energy in this shot above?  These kids are having fun!  I love this age!  I was asked to photograph the CMS Boys Basketball Team and I loved it!!!  And I know their season is over, but I wanted everyone to see how cute our Pirates are!  I couldn't share everyone's photos, just not enough time in the day, so of course, please check out the PIRATE GALLERY to see more.  Special shout out to Coach Davis and Coach Howell and the rest of the staff at CMS.  These kids were super polite, so much fun, and they had those boys organized and ready to go.
Thank you so much!  Our Coaches are AWESOME!

The little cheerleaders got to perform at 1/2 and these two were having fun.  JOY!

Last night was Senior Night @ Good Ole' Cooper High.  Boys Senior Night.  And I must confess that by choice, I would have gone to the girl's playoff game, but I was shooting a gig up until game time and couldn't make it to Littlefield in time.  The girls ended up taking a hard loss and dang it, in my head I thought, "I'll make the next game".

Please forgive me boys!  I love watching you guys play, but I love those Lady Pirates, too!  #tornfan

You'll find more images on the PIRATE GALLERY.  Please share with your family and friends, AND can you share on facebook as well?  I get emails all the time from people looking for Pirate Photos. Let's spread the word!

the one where the Lady Pirates play their last home game of the year

That face!  Oh, gosh!  I know how he feels, that dad up there?  Escorting his baby across the floor on her last home basketball game.  My heart hurts for him.  I've done it twice.  Kalyn graduated in 2012 and Summer Zoe in 2014.  Both times, I was chocked up!  Like lump in my throat wanting to cry chocked up.  You want the best for your kids!  You have hopes and dreams and you want happy rolled into one big ball of life!  And then something creeps up on you, and you realize it's a change, a tipping point, a wall.  WHATEVER!  And you have a few seconds to ponder the situation and that lump starts.  If you know Dan, that dad up there?  You know that face is his "I'm holding it together face".  And then your photographer yells, "Hey, look at me!" to save you from humiliation and snap you back into reality.  Yep.  That's what I'm good for.

I'll leave you with a hug!  And the orders to go view more photos on the Pirate Gallery.  You can find the link up there in my menu.  "Down with LCP", yeah, you know me!  And you can thank me for that song reference later.

the one where the Lady Pirates play the Westerners

I found myself photographing basketball last week.  It was the first time since December, i believe.  And I loved the energy!  I had been hearing great things about Lubbock High's new coach.  How she's going back to fundamentals and has really whipped the girls into shape.  She's been in the news, on the web, on my social media feed.  So, when I heard the game Friday as against the Lady Pirates, I made time to go and watch.  Of course I brought my camera!

It was a hard fought game, and all the hype was right.  These girls came to play!  Head's up and playing hard!  Hard fought game with the Lady Pirates taking home the win!  As always, more photos on the Pirate Gallery.  Check the menu for the link.

the one where Lubbock Cooper plays soccer

Yep.

You read that right!  Lubbock Cooper has a soccer team!  I’m so excited!  And Wednesday, they played their first game!  It’s just a JV schedule this year, but next year?  Watch out West Texas!  These girls will ROCK!  Heck!  They rock pretty hard core right now.

Kalyn Marie played soccer for years.  And had to stop once she started playing varsity ball for Cooper.  She missed it so much that when she went away to college, she joined their club soccer team at UT.  She hadn’t played in almost 3 years, and tried out and made the team!  Very cool.  So, I dragged her along with me Wednesday in the freezing cold to photograph the girls.

Wow!  The Lady Pirates are playing soccer!  You can view more photos by heading to the Cooper Pirate Gallery.  See that link in the menu?  "Down With LCP"

PS That #10?  Yep.  She could be my favorite.  HELLO!  Slaton girls stick together no matter where they roam.  Go Lady PIrates!

the one with those Laura Bush Pirates!

Every year I forget how hard I laugh around these kids!  Oh, Lord!  I was telling another football momma that it's the BEST AB workout ever!  The only one I care to do, by the way.  But I'm serious!  These kids are so much fun!  Don't get me wrong, it's work.  Hard work at that.  But not so much for me as it is the coach's and the kids. Okay, maybe just the coaches who have to corral all the kids.  The kids?  They get a day off of practice.  HELLO!  That's probably why I get all the great faces!!!   I photographed the Laura Bush Middle School Football team for the 3rd year in a row and it just keeps getting better and better.  I love these PIRATES!!!

the one where the Lady Pirates play their first game of the season

What an exciting game!  HELLO!  The Lady Pirates played Midland last night at home and of course, I had to go and watch them play.  Coach Parsley has had the team since my baby girl's have graduated and she's in her 2nd season.  I watched (come, shot them) a few times last season and was definitely impressed, but last night?  These girls were on fire!  Insert the Alicia Keys tune right now into your head..."this girl is on fire..."  Hear it?  They were fast, they were making clutch shots, even sinking free throws when it really counted to stay in the game.  And the game was PHYSICAL!  These girls were on the floor and getting shoved, fouled, pulled and poked.  They were neck and neck for the game and when it came down to the final minutes, Jaycee Hise nailed a basket for the win.  The buzzer went off and out Pirate Nation went WILD!  Well done ladies!!! Continue to play hard like this and your season will last a LONG time!!! Super proud of YOU!!!

Kristin

PS  I managed to get a few images from the JV game.  They are at the beginning of this blog post PICTURE overload.  As always, more photos on the Cooper Pirate Gallery.  Just click that "down with LCP" link in the menu.

the one where the Pirates play Frenship

Last night, over in the Pirate Nation, was a game of INTENSE football!  Intense!!!  So Cooper played Frenship last night and many of us didn't fall asleep for quite some time.  We couldn't!  We were too jacked up on "what could have been".  UGH!!!

The game was talked about on social media, at school, in the press, facebook, you name it, all week leading up to the big night.  Of course it was! These two schools have played each other for years!  It's always a good game when a Pirate takes on a Tiger.  There was some trash talk and a bit of vandalism involved I hear, but Hello!  For the most part?  Things were kept to a minimum and they played some football.  And a good game of football, I might add.

When I arrived, (and walked the mile to the stadium), stands were packed and excitement was in the air!  Frenship filled their stands and even posted a precious shout out to Luke and Hannah Grace, two Cooper Families that are hurting right now.  They hung huge banners on their side of the field showing their support.  How cool is that?  That just really impressed me with how much this community loves another, despite where we attend school.  I love that!

Game was great, very entertaining and filled with intense moments.  As always, controversy ensued with a couple of bad ball placements and even a turnover or two.  Coaches discussed with refs, mad faces and lots of emotion.  We honestly should have won.  Could have won.  But it just wasn't in the football cards of heaven last night.  When Frenship scored in the last few minutes of the game, the air was sucked out of the stands here at Cooper and you could hear the disappointment.  Feel the disappointment!  It was awful.  It took a while before my stomach quit hurting.  It really did.

I love being a part of the Pirate Nation and even though we've grown by leaps and bounds, it's awesome to come and still find familiar faces there.  The boys play again next Saturday when they host Stephenville @ 2PM.  I plan on being there.  Maybe I'll see you?

Kristin

the one with the season opener against Idalou

Friday Night Lights in Texas baby!  and I had to work.  Yep.  It's been crazy since we moved those girls back to college.  We haven't hired at The Bull Stop yet, as we are waiting for the right human to come along, and in the meantime, I'm pulling shifts.  I haven't worked up there since May and I'm a bit rusty.  But it hasn't been too terribly bad until today.  I was scheduled to work and needed to be in several places.  LUNA as hosting a fundraiser at the Lubbock Country Club and our boys were playing under the lights tonight in the Pirate Nation.  As in FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!  But things worked out with LUNA and I managed to make part of the game.  It ended up ending at 1/2 time as the lightening just wouldn't stay away.  So, here's a few pictures of the action last night.  You can always catch more on the Pirate Gallery.  See you next time!

the one with the Monterey VB Team in my pool

When your kids play sports growing up, naturally you photograph it.  The thing is, I'm still photographing sports, and I LOVE it!  The Monterey VB Team has a very special person on it. Kenzie.  I've known Kenzie since birth.  She's that tall drink of water in that first image if you keep scrolling.  Her mom + dad + us go WAY BACK.  As in, before you were born back.  Yep.  That far back.  So, I was extremely happy when her mom contacted me about photographing their team!  YIPEE!

They were working with theme, Guy Harvey.  Heard of him?  So, I offered my pool since there were no bodies of water around the LBK that even looked remotely like what he paints.  Overall, the pool blue theme worked out nicely with their Monterey colors.  And despite the heat and me having utterly NO patio furniture, things worked out OK. Thank you, Monterey!  And thank you, Page, for asking.  You can view more of their fabulous images by CLICKING HERE.

Much LOVE + love does,
Kristin

the one with the Lubbock Cooper Cross Country Team

School starts today for some.  My facebook feed has been blowing up all day!  It makes me a little sad actually, because mine are starting their first days of school from their college rooms.  Not home.  I shall have to live vicariously through all those I see on facebook and remember, I have less laundry then you.  I'll take comfort in that thought.  Meanwhile...I have some gorgeous athletes to share with you.  May I introduce LCP's Cross Country Team.  They are coached by Christie Parsley and HELLO!  are amazing kids to pose for me and my camera in the weeds over by the CMS football field.  I love them for that.  Here's to an AWESOME season, kids!  Push hard, play hard, win hard.  View more of these fabulous kids by CLICKING HERE.

the one with the LCHS Softball Team

20150119_0005I just finished uploading the Lubbock Cooper Softball Team Photos to their gallery. Head on over to www.kbedz.com to view. Funny story I wanted to share. I've been working at The Bull Stop quite a bit and editing up there as well on my laptop. I was posting images to their gallery and had almost hit the publish key when I did a quick one through to make sure I had all the girl's posted. Well, needless to say, I missed some profanity on the beams above their heads in their individual shots. Like in over 100 images! I was so busy looking at their pretty faces I completely missed it! How would that have looked to their parents, faculty and their coaches! Here's our Lady Pirates sitting under a beam that reads, F*#! Y@*. Yeah, not so good. Of course, I edited the profanity out and uploaded the girls again. HELLO! Close one. Just a side effect of East Lubbock shooting. OH, my.

Go Lady Pirates! Have a great season!!!
